Calculators: Save Time and Money
Use the calculator tools in Thread Stash to save yourself time and money.
Project calculator and Skein Estimator are available to Premium users.

💡
NOTE: If you are “Working over 2”, divide by 2 for your fabric count. For example, 32 over 2 should be 16 for an accurate calculation, rather than 32.

Buy Enough Fabric 🪡

notion image
Use the Project Calculator to calculate how much fabric you need, beyond what your stitched piece will be!
If you're like me and plan to frame your finished works, it's essential to leave enough fabric for a good border (I have a beloved piece where I failed to leave enough and it's a miracle it was never noticed).

  • Select the units (inches or centimeters)
  • Enter the dimensions of the pattern (this will give you the stitched area)
  • Enter your fabric count
  • Add how many inches/cm you want on each side

The calculation will account for how large your stitched piece will be as well as the finished dimensions after accounting for the border!

Buy enough thread…but not too much 😉

Some patterns may have a stitch count to show you how many stitches of a certain color are used in the project. And if you know how many stitches there are, you can estimate how much thread you'll need.

Save money by not overspending on thread!

💡
This tool provides an estimate; the number of skeins you actually require will depend on your stitching style.
  • Enter your fabric count
  • Enter how many strands you are using
  • Enter how many stitches are in the pattern

You'll see the raw calculation as well as the rounded version to represent how many whole skeins you would need to buy.
