Thread Stash, while no longer available to download in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, can be downloaded….sort of.
Android: You can tap “Install” on the home page to download to your device. From your device, you can add the icon to your home screen to open it seamlessly
iOS: You can go to Share > Add to Home Screen to easily access Thread Stash
Thread Stash does require internet connectivity (it always has), but now that it’s a web application, I can deliver updates more easily — and you’ll get updates immediately. (No more checking the app stores for updates).
Why the change?
Thread Stash is a Progressive Web Application (PWA), which means it’s developed as a web application, but has many attributes of a native app.
I started Thread Stash as a native Android app that had to be downloaded through the Google Play Store. But over time, there was a lot of demand for an iOS application to be downloaded via the Apple App Store. But, at the time, I just didn’t have the necessary skills to pull it off.
I launched a web version to fill the gap, but the demand for a native iOS app kept building. So I gave it the good ol’ college try. I tried my best and I did release a version, but it was buggy and not the experience I wanted Thread Stash users to have, so I pulled it from the Apple App Store relatively quickly.
I also had written the original Android app in a dying-language. And the Google Play Store stopped supporting it. Therefore, it became impossible to release updates without a full rewrite.
So I went back to square one to develop a faster, better, and more user-friendly app that would be cost-efficient for my own needs, but that would also be a better cross-platform fit. And that’s how the latest version was born!
